GRETEL
Contemporary circus solo for young audience
Blank scene. A square. Several little objects – a tray, a teapot, an English grass, a small table. And then Fritz and Oscar, cute and silent housemates. Gretel goes back and forward in her tiny house made of crazy little things. She is mindless and rigorous, chaotic and still very careful in making everything stick to her bizarre logic. Everything is out of range and out of place. Then, suddenly, the catastrophe happens. What is home? Who are we? Through the immediacy of the fairy tale, GRETEL walks alone along the paths of existence. It is a joyful hymn to obstinacy and perseverance, a celebration of migration and the need for re-inventing oneself when everything collapses. A light and deep investigation on the meaning of staying and leaving through the powerful images of circus.

OLTRE GRETEL
short film based on the play GRETEL
OLTRE GRETEL is a short film born from the encounter between Clara Storti, contemporary circus author, and Beniamino Barrese, film director. Quattrox4 decided to experiment with the camera as a tool for investigation to broaden the focus on the authorship of contemporary circus. Thanks to the collaboration with BASE Milano, through the public programme Playground, this auteur short film was created, freely inspired by Clara Storti’s show GRETEL. An experiment to think of digital as a conscious choice, capable of creating new, vivid and powerful representations.

QUATTROX4
Quattrox4 is a contemporary circus center based in Milan. Since 2011 it is a space for training, exchange, creation, promotion and research of contemporary circus. It runs a circus school for children and adults. Since 2017, through the international festival FUORI ASSE, has helped position contemporary circus within Italy’s performing arts scene, fostering artistic authorship and hybridization with visual languages. The Quattrox4 productions on tour are GRETEL and BAUCI. To support professional development for artists it has developed the research program LA PAROLA AI CORPI. It collaborates with major Italian institutions such as Triennale Milano, Romaeuropa, I Teatri di Reggio Emilia, Sosta Palmizi, and participates in national and international cultural networks.
