Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino

BAUCI

CIRCUS OF INVISIBLE CITIES
Site-specific and interactive contemporary circus show

Quattrox4 company pays tribute to Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino with a contemporary circus performance that engages the audience in an imaginative experience, inspired by the vivid, kaleidoscopic, and visionary writing of this author.
Artist and set designer Clara Storti creates a site-specific show for public spaces, where installations and performances appear in unexpected contexts.
The audience participates in the creation of the spaces through a material and tactile activation, co-creating worlds of fragile relationships or multiple constellations. A collective universe in constant transformation takes shape, inhabited by the circus artist with both strength and fragility.
BAUCI is a show in which contemporary circus builds a bridge between reality and utopia, opening our gaze to what is, what could be, and what we would like our world to become.

DIRECTOR’S NOTES

Modern cities mirror our past and stand as a warning for our future. They are lands of contradictions, frontier spaces, places of shattered visions and projections lacking courage. If we hear echoed Italo Calvino’s words, describing a world covered by “cities that weigh upon the earth and upon people, crammed with riches and traffic jams, overloaded with ornaments and obligations, complicated by mechanisms and hierarchies, swollen, tense, heavy,” then we can only aspire to a revolution, to a radical and generative transformation.
It is through transformation that the demands for change in the lives we lead can be fulfilled, and it is within collectivity that the force capable of making metamorphosis possible takes shape. For this reason, it becomes urgent to create opportunities for participation, forms of community and togetherness – even if fleeting, transitional, magmatic – that allow us to recognize ourselves as part of a shared sensibility.
This habit can also be cultivated through small occasions which, however marginal, can momentarily disrupt passive dynamics or the seductions of isolation. From this impulse arises the desire to build an interactive contemporary circus show inspired by Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities.
