Gaia Vimercati (1990) received a MA in Comparative Literature at Trinity College Dublin (2015) and a BA in Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Milan (2012) with a year as visiting student at the Ruprecht-Karls Heidelberg in the department of Germanistik (2011-2012).
She is now independent researcher and cultural project manager of Quattrox4, a contemporary circus centre in Milan, where she is in charge of the development of circus studies in cooperation with Università Bicocca.
In 2016 she created Censimento Circo Italia, the first map of circus companies in Italy.
In 2018 she attended an intensive seminar at Concordia University of Montreal called Research-creation methods and embedded observational research in contemporary circus and physical theatre led by Professor Patrick Leroux.
In 2020 she creates SGUARDI SUL CIRCO a short documentary on contemporary circus in Italy together with Filippo Malerba e Clara Storti,
She was among the contributors of many international conferences: Semiotics of the Circus (Muenster, 2015) Biennale Internationale Des Arts du Cirque (Marseille, 2021), Circus And Its Others 2021 (Davis, California), EASTAP Conference (Bologna 2020, Milan 2022).
In 2021 she was selected by Dramaturg Federico Bellini for an intensive writing residency at La Biennale di Venezia (2021), where she investigated Ariane Mnouchkine and Meredith Monk’s work during La Biennale ‘75.
She has written for several blogs and cultural magazines: Sik-Sik Blog (Teatro Franco Parenti), The Submarine, Circus Talk, Circostrada Blog, EASTAP.
Since 2021 she is the curator of LA PAROLA AI CORPI, a hybrid resydency in cooperation with BASE Milano between theory and practice in circus which looks at circus as an art of creation and aims at shaping new artistic spaces through an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach.
She is the external eye of the show GRETEL (2021), circus solo by Clara Storti.
