ABOUT ELAINE
Elaine Briant graduated from the Circus University of the Arts in Stockholm in 2020, specialising in hand balancing.
Working as a solo artist, in duos (Bulldogs with Antonio Panaro, and with Joana Martinho), and as part of ensembles (Collectif les Équilibristes, Rightwaydown), her practice brings together technical skill, research into acrobatic movement, and the creation of bespoke apparatuses that she then brings to life as a performer.
With an energy you can feel the moment she enters the room, and an eye for bringing out each person’s individual strengths, Elaine Briant will guide us through a process combining technique, exploration, and creativity.
DESCRIPTION
During the INTERMEDIATE workshop, participants will focus on consolidating their two-arm handstand. The work will centre on alignment and exploring new bodily sensations to help unlock the next stages of their handstand practice. There will also be room to experiment with different entries and exits, from fundamental variations to less conventional ones.
The MASTERCLASS will focus on discovering new positions and linking them together through continuous movement and connection. Participants will explore new entries and exits and, depending on their individual level, work on introducing or refining one-arm handstands, developing both strength and balance.

A 30-second handstand hold.
Familiarity with the basic shapes: tuck, straddle, and full.
MASTERCLASS:
A 1-minute handstand hold.

ABOUT TJAŠA
She is a Slovenian professional multidisciplinary circus artist currently based in Portugal.
Her main disciplines include Aerial Spiral, Chinese Pole, Aerial Pole, Dance Pole, and Hair Hanging, with additional experience in dance and hand-to-hand acrobatics.
Her professional career began in 2018 after winning Slovenia’s Got Talent, which opened the door to the international circus and performance world. In 2020, she was invited to perform at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris, where she received two awards. That same year, with the pandemic pausing many projects, she took the opportunity to study at the Professional Contemporary Circus School (INAC) in Portugal.
In 2022, she became the first Slovenian artist to be chosen as a main character in a Cirque du Soleil show (Muv). Since then, her curiosity has taken herself through diverse experiences — from German cabarets to traditional Italian circus, TV appearances, and galas worldwide.
In 2023, she co-founded the contemporary circus company Rummi-Crew with two other artists from Texas and Italy. Together, they created the show F.O.F., which had a successful season at street and theatre festivals in Slovenia and Italy.
Currently, she is actively performing with Eu Quero Andar de Carrinhos de Choque (directed by Bruno Machado) and developing three new shows: Liberdade Liberdade, Pasto, and Isla of Flightless Birds.
What has drawn her to circus from the very beginning is the creation process. Her goal is to keep researching new concepts of movement, exploring expression through physicality, and developing a unique creative language shaped by her diverse experiences.
DESCRIPTION
During the INTERMEDIATE workshop, the session will begin with a gradual warm-up and conditioning exercises designed to support safe and effective pole training. This will be followed by improvisation exploring rhythm, body awareness, and movement quality to spark creativity.
Participants will then explore pole flow through accessible tricks, transitions, and sequences, as well as static holds and the quality of movement within them. The workshop will also introduce partner work, focusing on contact, trust, and balance, with the opportunity to try selected doubles tricks.
The MASTERCLASS will begin with a targeted warm-up to support advanced technique, focusing on strength, dynamics, and body control. Improvisation will explore rotational flow, musicality, and dynamic movement, followed by advanced training in spirals, transitions, movement dynamics, and advanced static holds.
Partner work on the pole will also be explored through advanced doubles tricks. Finally, participants will bring together the material they have developed, integrating it into combinations and their own movement phrases.
PREREQUISITI
